Techniques on teaching music literacy through daily sight singing, dictation and the music that you rehearse. Length: 1-2 hours Session: 10 Presenter: Dave Perry Steps to a Successful Concert Ideas for planning your concert season and programming each performance. Also, how to grow and educate your audience. Several lessons will be presented using books that can be found in most school libraries. It is best to have some Orff instruments & small percussion instruments for this session. Length: 1 hour Session: 3 Presenter: Jean Perry Math for the General Music Classroom Ideas to relate music with math skills are included in this session. It would be best to have some Orff instruments & small percussion instruments for this session. Length: 1 hour Session: 4 Presenter: Jean Perry Movement in the General Music Classroom All of us up and moving for this session, no chairs. Orff instruments & small percussion instruments will be needed . Water bottles for the participants are recommended. Length: 1-2 hours Session: 5 Presenter: Jean Perry Musicals for the Elementary Student All the info to get going on presenting a musical at school. Whether you are an old stage hand or have never directed a musical before, you should find something new in this session. Guidance for choosing materials will be presented also. Possible previewing musicals from multiple publishers. Possible solutions to various problems will be addressed. No creativity required; just an adventurous mind. Twenty-five years of teaching music and well over a hundred boards later, Jean Perry hopes you will come away with more than a few good ideas for the walls of your classroom. Length: 1 hour Session: 8 Presenter: Jean Perry Teach Them To Read: Games for the General Music Classroom Teaching the basics for a strong foundation of music literacy is the bottom line of this session. Materials will be presented from “Games That Teach: Rhythm Reading Skills” and "Musical Games for the Musically Minded". Boomwhackers...the latest fad in music education....how to use them to maximize the amount of music education in your classroom. For this session, there needs to be a minimum of five sets of diatonic boomwhackers and two sets of boomwhacker octavator caps. Length: 1 hour Session: 11 Presenter: Jean Perry Vocal Techniques for General Music The general music teacher wears many hats. One of these which we sometimes ignore is our "voice teacher" hat. Jean Perry will share some of her ideas on helping children learn how to sing correctly during their general music class period(can use a dozen students for demonstration purposes).
